July is the doldrums of the year for hockey fans – let’s stave off the withdrawal, enjoy the warm weather, and get out and play some BALL HOCKEY! Bring your friends, your kids, your mom – whoever, wear some bruins stuff and come out & have a good time. We’ll be playing from 1PM-4PM on Sunday, August 15th at John Ahern field in Cambridge shoes or rollerblades welcome. Lawn chairs are welcome too – the players need to be cheered on, of course! (If anyone brings a vuvuzela, I am instantly banning you from the area, though.)

A cooler of water and possibly snacks will be provided, and the rink is walking distance from Central Square and the Cambridgeside Galleria, so a stop after for lunch/beer is highly possible. Bring money, a stick, and most importantly YOUR GAME FACE! Don’t have a stick? Let us know, and someone will bring an extra! Let’s make this the biggest, most ridiculous summer #NHLtweetup ever – it’s the best way to get hyped for the 2010-2011 season! If Long Islanders can do it, why can’t we?

THERE IS PLENTY OF FREE PARKING NEAR THE PARK/RINK, especially on Sundays.

Announcing The First Ever Boston Bruins Draft #NHLTweetup!

We have the second pick this year! As the draft starts at 7PM on
Friday, June 25th and the official Bruins outdoor screen party at
Faneuil Hall starts at 6:30. Meet us at the corner of North St. and
Congress St. on the Faneuil Hall side by 6:30, and we’ll all head over
to the watch party together.

Or, if you’re planning on watching at the outdoor screen with other
people, come on down to everyone’s favorite NHLtweetup spot – Boston Beer
Works – to watch the second half of the first round of the NHL draft
after Boston drafts either Tyler Seguin or Taylor Hall! Our
reservation is for 8PM, which should work out to be right after the
Bruins draft 15th. If for some reason Chia trades up or down, or the
15th pick runs later than 8PM, just head on over to Beer Works after!

PLEASE RSVP ONLY IF YOU PLAN ON GOING TO BEER WORKS, this way we can
get a semi-accurate head count for the bar.

Who’d have thunk the Bruins would be in round 2 of the playoffs two months ago? Who’d imagine we’d have HOME ICE against the FLYERS in round two, after just barely beating out the Rangers and the Thrashers, the Flyers and the Habs by mere points to snag the 6th seed? WHO CARES, WE GOT IT, AND THAT MEANS IT’S NHLTWEETUP TIME.

Bruins fans and hockey fans from around the country/continent/world – it’s time to plan the first #NHLTweetup of 2010.

That’s right – the Winter Classic NHLtweetup is officially on, hosted by the NHL and Bruins tweeps, @sarah_connors and @mhcranberry! Throw off your New Year’s Eve exhaustion and meet us at An Tua Nua on January 1st at 11am, an hour before the Winter Classic officially kicks off. An Tua Nua is conveniently located about a block from Fenway Park right near Kenmore Square, the heart and soul of Red Sox Nation. With sponsorships from Bud Light and Verizon Wireless, and giveaways, raffles, and other fun events in the works, this is going to be an NHLtweetup you don’t want to miss. And if the epic of the Winter Classic itself weren’t enough…@metricjulie and @sarah_connors placed a little wager, @dani3boyz and @speakofthedevs-style, on the November 5th game Bruins/Habs game. Unfortunately, the Bruins lost, so…we’re raffling off a 1915-1916 replica Habs jersey with an as-yet-undetermined number (feel free to comment on the post with what number you think julie should put on it!), which @sarah_connors will be wearing all night! At least one other prize will be announced closer to the tweetup, but you can get details about and enter the Epic Charity Wager raffle here.

It was an NHLTweetup in miniature (we had 9 attendees, including one non-twitterer) but it ended up being perfect – the Sports Depot had a perfectly-sized table just WAITING to be claimed by Tweeps. On the way to 7 o’clock, we got the Caps/Rangers and Flyers/Pens games put on TVs for us, and got things going!

Not a lot of actual tweeting was done since people were mostly caught up in some serious conversations (Lots of talk was had about spending those 20% discounts on Hartford Whalers gear at the NHL store!) and there was a bit of interference when some…rowdy…Rangers fans/Boston University students got a bit too “excited” when their team pulled ahead, but we made friends with some other Caps fans (two of us were Rocking the Red; everyone else with the exception of Mary the non-twitterer (Habs fan…what?) was rocking their Bruins gear.) and the tweetup wrapped up around 9:45! Sad that the Caps lost, but we had a good time anyways.

Wear your favorite hockey gear – Bruins gear encouraged, but if you want to rep another team, that’s cool too.  Just remember, our haterade isn’t serious haterade.  It’s all in the spirit of PLAYOFF hockey!

A bit about the venue – the Sports Depot is located in Lower Allston (aka the REAL L.A.), just over the bridge from Harvard Square.  It’s easily accessed from I-90 and I-93 (via Storrow Drive) and there’s a good-sized parking lot.

Address – 353 Cambridge St., Allston, MA

Time – Plan to get there between 6:30 and 7PM, as the puck will probably drop at 7pm and we’ll want to get ourselves situated.
