July is the doldrums of the year for hockey fans – let’s stave off the withdrawal, enjoy the warm weather, and get out and play some BALL HOCKEY! Bring your friends, your kids, your mom – whoever, wear some bruins stuff and come out & have a good time. We’ll be playing from 1PM-4PM on Sunday, August 15th at John Ahern field in Cambridge shoes or rollerblades welcome. Lawn chairs are welcome too – the players need to be cheered on, of course! (If anyone brings a vuvuzela, I am instantly banning you from the area, though.)

A cooler of water and possibly snacks will be provided, and the rink is walking distance from Central Square and the Cambridgeside Galleria, so a stop after for lunch/beer is highly possible. Bring money, a stick, and most importantly YOUR GAME FACE! Don’t have a stick? Let us know, and someone will bring an extra! Let’s make this the biggest, most ridiculous summer #NHLtweetup ever – it’s the best way to get hyped for the 2010-2011 season! If Long Islanders can do it, why can’t we?

THERE IS PLENTY OF FREE PARKING NEAR THE PARK/RINK, especially on Sundays.

The 2nd Annual NHLtweetup: Street Hockey Edition!

It’s that time again! Summer is here and the hockey withdrawal is starting to set in. That can only mean one thing: It’s time for the 2nd annual NHLtweetup: Street Hockey Edition! This year, we have Bruins fan @sarah_connors coming in to be the out-of-state team representative! As always, the local teams’ fans will also be out in full force. Wear your team’s colors with pride!

Join us on Sunday, July 11th, from 1:00-4:00pm (game time) for what be will be another amazing, and extremely fun, NHLtweetup! You can read about all the fun that was had last year here. Don’t have a stick? No problem! The tweeps always have extras. Just bring yourself and your desire to play some hockey! (And if your game is a little rusty, no worries… the stats don’t count!). Also, shoes or skates, the choice is yours. Wait… You don’t play? Then we have the perfect job for you. Bring your favorite chair, set up alongside the “rink” and start mocking… I mean CHEERING, the player(s) of your choice. Feel free to bring family or friends. The more, the merrier!

If you can’t make the game, the tweeps will be heading to a pizza place nearby to recover from the game with some food and drinks. More details on that as the day draws nearer.

The “rink” (term used loosely) is at the far end of the parking lot behind the handball and basketball courts.

It’s time for the 2^nd Annual NHL Draft NHLtweetup!

If you’re going to be in LA for the NHL Draft, then this is a “must not miss” event for you. During Day 2 of the NHL Draft (Saturday, June 26^th from 10-2. You know… the really boring part of the Draft), Twitterers from all corners of the continent will be gathering at @ESPNZoneLALive for a Draft NHLtweetup. The Figueroa Patio is reserved just for those that RSVP to the event. The audio from the Draft on NHLN will be piped onto the patio and you’ll be able to see The Draft on some of the screens in the SportCenter Bar. So, while you’re catching up with the hockey tweeps in convos of more than 140, you won’t miss a thing. ESPN Zone even has wifi so feel free to bring your favorite tweeting device. (Don’t forget to tag your tweets and pics #NHLtweetup so they go into our gallery!)

Courtesy of @LAKingsHockey, the first 15 people that arrive at ESPN Zone will receive a free gift! As an extra-special-awesome courtesy, The LA Kings have also set aside a limited amount of tickets to the NHL Entry Draft at the Staples Center for Friday night. In order to be eligible for either of these awesome perks that are offered only to NHLtweetup attendees, you MUST RSVP “Yes” to the event.

If you are not credentialed and don’t already have a ticket for The Draft, please email Dani [at] nhltweetup.com with your full name and Twitter ID so that arrangements can be made for you to pick up your ticket. Pick up time for tickets will be Friday, June 25^th 2:30-3:15 at the Staples Center. Matt (@ViewFromMySeats) will have a list of people who requested a ticket and will be waiting outside the main entrance of the arena near the Magic Johnson statue. (No, seriously. Pay attention. This is important!) He will not be there any later than 3:15 so he can go in and enjoy The Draft, himself. It is imperative that you’re on time if you want admission into the Draft. He will not be there past 3:15 so if you get there later than that, you’re unfortunately ticket-less. Tickets are limited and on a first come, first served basis so get your RSVPs in and get that email to me ASAP.

Announcing The First Ever Boston Bruins Draft #NHLTweetup!

We have the second pick this year! As the draft starts at 7PM on
Friday, June 25th and the official Bruins outdoor screen party at
Faneuil Hall starts at 6:30. Meet us at the corner of North St. and
Congress St. on the Faneuil Hall side by 6:30, and we’ll all head over
to the watch party together.

Or, if you’re planning on watching at the outdoor screen with other
people, come on down to everyone’s favorite NHLtweetup spot – Boston Beer
Works – to watch the second half of the first round of the NHL draft
after Boston drafts either Tyler Seguin or Taylor Hall! Our
reservation is for 8PM, which should work out to be right after the
Bruins draft 15th. If for some reason Chia trades up or down, or the
15th pick runs later than 8PM, just head on over to Beer Works after!

PLEASE RSVP ONLY IF YOU PLAN ON GOING TO BEER WORKS, this way we can
get a semi-accurate head count for the bar.

The recent floods that have devastated Nashville and the surrounding communities have brought out the best in the people of Nashville and Middle Tennessee. Volunteer efforts have been overwhelming, and people have responded with time, physical effort, and money to help those in need.

Hockey fans aren’t like other fans, and that is not just a tag line in a commercial. While it is true about their passion for the great game of hockey, it is also true about their concern for their neighbor and the response to those in need. Predator fans have rallied around the community with an energy and enthusiasm that is contagious and inspiring.

Predator fans, and hockey fans in Nashville will have another opportunity to put that passion into action at the Nashville Flood Relief NHLtweetup on Monday, June 7th from 6-9:00 at the Tin Roof, 1516 Demonbreun St. in Nashville.

Come share the fellowship of the Predator nation as we gather for a great cause. All proceeds from the event will go to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Flood Relief Effort.

There will be appearances by the Predators coaching staff as well as Preds play by play announcer Pete Weber and radio announcer Tom Callahan. There are some great auction items that will be available at the venue, including four game tickets and a locker room tour provided by Head Coach Barry Trotz; autographed Olympic pictures from Ryan Suter and Shea Weber; signed jerseys and pucks, and much more. Not only will there be some outstanding Predator items at the auction, but some non-hockey related items that are very nice. There will also be opportunities to bid on all of these at a silent auction at the Tin Roof.

The outpouring of support from the hockey community across the country has been exceptional. We will also have an on-line auction of items that we have received from other teams. There is a Washington Capitals baseball hat signed by Alexander Ovechkin, pucks signed by Sidney Crosby and Geno Malkin, a Carolina Hurricanes jersey signed by Rod Brind’Amour, and many more items coming in from around the league. 100% of the proceeds raised at the NHLtweetup and the on-line auction will go to CFMT for distribution to those impacted by the recent floods.

This promises to be a great evening of fun and fellowship with Predator fans from around the area, with the proceeds benefiting those that need our help.
