Join the Hockey Tweeps at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, November 24th at The Main Event in Plainview.
This isn’t your ordinary NHLtweetup. We’re celebrating the arrival of @MCARTER82 from London, England and holding a fundraiser raffle to benefit Hockey Fights Cancer. At the time of this post, 58 contributors have supported our efforts and raised over $1,200! This event is so special, it was mentioned in the NY Times Slaphot Blog.
You can read the full story on how a small wager turned into a fundraiser for a great cause on the NHLtweetup Chip In page, here. Raffle tickets can be purchased through the Chip In site until 5:00 pm the night of the NHLtweetup but can also be purchased at the event itself. Checks made out to “Hockey Fights Cancer” are preferred, but cash will be accepted.
We have some great items up for raffle. Each $5 donation gets you one entry for the item(s) of your choice. You can mix and match entries any way you would like.
The original item up for raffle is a woman’s size small Devils tshirt that @dani3boyz will be wearing despite her allegiance to the NY Islanders. (Donated by @NHLDevils)

The second item that went up for raffle was a man’s XL Islanders tshirt that will be worn by @speakofthedevs despite the fact that he’s a die hard Devils fan. (Hey… Anything for charity, right?)
The Hockey Tweeps have stepped up and donated other items to make it so that this raffle has something for just about everyone.
(UPDATE: See raffle items added below! [11/23 - 11:30a])
(Just received a package in the mail from the NJ Devils… 2 more signed items below!!! [11/23 - 1:30p])
(A donation from Steve Carlson from the movie “Slap Shot”! [11/24])
Kat (@SubtleLikeBrick) offered up her services to draw, what she describes as, “goofy pictures” of hockey players for a minimum $10 donation. They are far from goofy and have brought in a ton of donations since her offer.
Two examples so you can judge for yourself:

Zach Parise sketch on left for @streamertyer and Kris Letang on right for @lilhotz56.
Even if you use your donations for raffle tickets, she’ll still draw you the player of your choice.
Then, Erin (@ErinLynnOntario) donated 2 passes to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto (transportation and amenities not included, of course) valued at $30…
AND 2 New York Islanders women’s pink adjustable Hockey Fights Cancer caps valued at $22.95 each. (The 2 HHoF passes will be raffled as a pair. The pink Islanders hats will be raffled separately.)

Karla (@Heyitskarla) added in something for the Carolina Hurricanes fans amongst us. A grey tshirt (size medium) with “Carolina Hurricanes Est 1997″ on the front and a pink ribbon pin with the Hurricanes’ logo. These items will be raffled as a pair.

While at the Devils Viewing Party NHLtweetup the other night, @dani3boyz won a Devils puck signed by Bryce Salvador and is donating that along with some of the cool giveaways the Devils crew provided. The Bryce Salvador autographed puck, plastic cup with Devils logo, Devils bottle coozie and Devils logo pin will be raffled as a set.

Last, but not least, something for the Islanders fans….
A puck autographed by Matt Moulson (aka #MightyMattMoulson) along with an autographed 4×6 picture of him.

Added 11/23:
Update #1:
Cathy (@cathybytes) has donated a size XL grey Lemieux Foundation t-shirt.
The Lighthouse Foundation (@Lighthouse_LI) donated a voucher good for 2 tickets to any Islanders game (except Isles / Rangers) at Nassau Coliseum! (UPDATE: THERE ARE TWO PAIRS OF TICKETS BEING RAFFLED!)
Update #2:
When the New Jersey Devils said they wanted to send items to add to the raffle, I figured I’d get some shirts or other logo merchandise. Boy was I surprised to open a package that contained the following two items (raffled separately)…
Center Ice – New Jersey Devils game day program (October 5, 2009) signed by Jamie Langenbrunner.

An 8 x 10 autographed photo of Martin Brodeur. Yes, really. For $5 per chance and a bit of luck, that baby below can be yours.

Update #3:
Slap Shot fan? Well, we have a donation from Steve Carlson, himself. A set of 3 Slap Shot bobble heads!

What do you need to do to win the cool items mentioned above? Go to our NHLtweetup Chip in page HERE and donate in $5 increments. Each $5 you donate gets you one raffle entry and can be put toward whatever item you wish. You can put multiple entries on one item or spread them out however you would like. Please note on the PayPal page while donating (under “instructions for merchant”) what raffle(s) you would like to be entered for along with your Twitter ID so we know who you are.
If you donated/entered before the addition of new items and would like to change what you are entered for, please email dani [at] nhltweetup [dot] com with your changes.
Whether or not you’re entering to win any of these cool prizes, we would love if you would join us for the event that started it all. The Main Event is family friendly so if you have little ones that can party like the big ones, feel free to bring them! Twtvite now accepts RSVPs from those that don’t have Twitter accounts. Be sure to RSVP for everyone that will be joining us to make sure we have enough space.
We’re awaiting some other items that will be part of smaller, on-site, raffles for $1 each. If you’d like to participate, make sure you bring a few extra dollars with you.
Don’t miss out on a great night out, watch the Canadiens take on the Blue Jackets, talk in more than 140 and raise money for Hockey Fights Cancer with a chance to win some cool prizes! Hilarious pictures may also be taken so as to embarrass certain participants wearing gear that is not of their own teams.
RSVP below:
The Main Event is only 2.5 miles from the Hicksville LIRR station (map).
